Location: The City of Santa Monica is located in the Los Angeles County and it is surrounded completely by the city of Los Angeles.  Its specific geographic location is the Santa Monica Bay on the Pacific Ocean. The city grows 16 miles west of downtown Los Angeles and 8 miles north of the Los Angeles International Airport.

History: The City of Santa Monica was founded in 1875 through the selling of the Rancho San Vicente y Santa Monica and Rancho Boca de Santa Monica by Jose del Carmen Sepulveda who sold 38,409 acres (155 km²) of the land for $54,000 to Colonel Robert A. Baker in 1872.
Santa Monica was then incorporated in 1886 and since then it has been one of the most attractive cities for tourists and new coming settlers.
During 1893, a wharf was built north of Santa Monica, which was claimed by Los Angeles, and although it was an economic loss to the city of Santa Monica, it allowed the city beaches to remain attractive for newcomers.
