Location: The City od San Francisco is located at the Northern tip of the San Francisco peninsula to the north of the state of California in the United States. The Pacific Ocean, the San Francisco Bay and the San Mateo County surround it. By west, north, east and south respectively.

History: Don Gaspar de Portola arrived on 1769 to the territory of the Yelamu group of the Ohlone people, settled and established the San Francisco de Asis Mission.

The territory was part of Mexico and the town was called Yerba Buena
until the Mexican-American war when it was claimed by the United States on 1846. By 1849 and due to the Gold Rush, San francisco´s population was already 25000 and was quickly rising with the discovery of gold and silver in high quantities.
Soon, the banking and railroad industries became the strongest in San Francisco and the city expanded into the provision of services and goods for export to the Pacific.
On 1906 a huge earthquake shook San Francisco destroying almost three fourths of the city. However, rebuilding was fast and the prosperous city was again as flamboyant as ever.
Both the Bay bridge and the Golden Gate bridge were built during the great depression and finished on 1936 and 1937 respectively. Urban planning projects like roads, freeways and new neighborhoods increased during the 50s and 60s, while skyscrapers and buildings were built mostly during the 70s and 80s. during this period, most of the port activity was transferred to Oakland and San Francisco turned to tourism, while undergoing a demographic exodus due to the increase of population in the suburbs surrounding the city.
In 1989, a second large-scale earthquake destroyed and rebuilt San Francisco´s urban structure.
During the 90s, it began to swarm with high tech and .com companies, which today are an important segment of the economy.

Climatic Features: the semiarid or Mediterranean climate of San Francisco is due to the same reasons as it is in most of the state of California. However, the fact that the city is surrounded by water makes it cooler than cities adjacent to it inland. It receives the cold fronts from the northern pacific making it about 20 degrees colder than its neighboring cities. It is a foggy city and its seasons are wet and dry rather than temperature related, for its geographic conditions make it a city of relatively stable temperatures.
